House Demolition FAQ's

At TYR Demolition we often receive the same questions from our current or potential clients. Please find some frequently asked questions below.

How long does it take to demolish a house?

One of the most common things people want to know when they are considering demolishing their home is how long it will take.
As with a lot of these general demolition questions, unfortunately there isn’t a simple or “price list” style answer.
The reality is – every house is very different and has its own individual variety of factors that will all impact the demolition time required.

What Certificates are required for the demolition of my property?

Both DA & CDC demolition approval will need to be acquired prior to any work being commenced.
Both local council or a private certifier can grant your approval for demolition to commence.
Private certifiers are generally considered the preferred option within the demolition industry thanks to their proficiency & faster turnaround times.

Who can perform demolitions?

Demolition is a complex set of tasks involving structural dismantlement, environmental remediation, site clearance, recycling, salvaging and recovery.
Most regulations are outlined by government bodies and require specific licensing to deal with the different stages of the demolition process.
TYR Demolition is fully licensed to perform all contractual work over the course of a complete demolition and is comprehensively insured.

How can I tell if my property conatins asbestos?

Asbestos was not banned here in Australia until 2003so if your property was built or renovated prior to this date – it is likely to contain an amount of asbestos
Houses that were constructed earlier than 1976 are more likely to contain large amounts of asbestos. Around 98% of homes built after 1954 relyed heavily on asbestos fibre cement and roofing materials.
If you are still unsure the team at TYR are happy to come out and inspect the site for any asbestos.

How long do house demolitions take?

Once all the relevant permits have been obtained and the property is vacant, demolition only takes a couple of days – although this timeframe can be affected by things such as other uncontrollable or unforeseen variables and extreme weather conditions.

Will my neighbours be disturbed?

Depending on where the property is located, its proximity to other dwellings and the density of the neighbourhood those around you may hear some machinery during business hours of operation.

What will be recycled from my property?

Depending on the condition of your property, many things may be reused or recycled which in turn subsidises the total cost of your demolition.
Bricks and timber are most commonly treated and resold as used building materials with windows, doors and even kitchens sometimes being salvaged also.

The team at TYR went above and beyond with our whole house demolition and old concrete pool area removal.
They took on a massive job and delivered with the utmost professionalism.
Wes was in constant communication and brought us to site to discuss issues in person and show us how they were going.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone for demo and rubbish removal. They left the site looking fantastic and went the extra mile to make sure we were happy.

We are a commercial fit-out company who used TYR where Wes and the boys undertook demolition work, removed building waste and hazardous materials.
